More interesting skies...

... Both shots taken with iPhone as I now have a b&w filter app...

... Sometimes clouds are good things when they create skies like these!

BSFA November 09 Meeting
Purple
[info]lapswood
On my way home now after a very entertaining BSFA where the interview this month was with Michael Marshall Smith. He talked about his take on life as an author. I must say that there was a lot more females in the audience than most of the meetings I've been at this year. No December meeting as usual so the next BSFA is on 27th January 2010 where Artist, Jim Burns will be interviewed by my good friend [info]peteyoung. Mr Burns is one of my favourite SF artists so I'm going to do my best not to miss that one!

Just the attendant here with me at the moment. She seems to be doing a huge amount of service washes as almost all the machines are going. Earlier two other gents were in. Just finishing off their drying and folding but with no conversation.

This week at work it's back to my normal routine of 20 hours a week, training smallish classes and having full autonomy over my shift pattern. I've decided to hold my 4 hour H+S Induction and 4 hour Till Training sessions on consecutive mornings instead of post lunch as it's much more likely the students will be more attentive. I still have to do some sessions on thursday evenings though, as some PT staff are hired just to cover Thurs after 5pm and Sat or Sun as their shift. This is why I'm often working on Saturdays. The one just gone was my first one off in seven!

I've made sure I'm off on 3rd December as so as I can attend THE TUN on my Birthday, which is always nice when it falls like that. I will also be going to this evening's BSFA as work has stopped me attending the last two and of course it the last one of the year. Hope to see you at either or maybe both events! :0)

Blue but Windy

I'm off today and off to do my fortnightly laundry run. Walking past one of my favourite local houses, I noticed how blue the sky was today...

... No adjusting, I promise. Just an IPhone cam pic.
It's always seems to be windier these days though. I don't remember it being like this in my youth! Maybe my good friend [info]vicarage could help with this query?

Phew!... Just finished hoovering out the whole place. The Dyson's dust container is nearly full. Coming up for Sunday Lunch is braised Pork Medalions with Roast Potatoes & Green Veg. All washed down with some Australian Chardonnay. Later on I will be soaking myself in a steamy apple & grape scented bathtub while listening to favourite tunes. After that, I will by curled up on the sofa with a Hot Chocolate with Caramel and a generous slice of Brioche... Ahhh!

Lightning

A lightning bolt just struck it seems just a few hundred yards from the bus. I'm sure it's much further in reality...

Here comes the rain again and this time it's heavy enough to make a hammering sound on the bus's roof. Nearly at work now. Hope it slacks long enough while I walk between the bus stop and store. :0|

Duck Weather

Left the house about 25 mins ago with medium windspeed and bits of blue sky poking through the grey clouds.

Now I'm on the bus and half way to work, the light levels have dropped to the point where vehicles have their headlights on again.

Just passed through a heavy downpour but it's let up now. I feel we may be in for another one any minute. :0\

Mood Music

I just popped out to the chemist to get some paracetamol. On the way back, the heavens opened and at that moment, my iPod shuffled to Travis, 'Why Does it Always rain on Me'.
A coincedence indeed. Imagine if the next track had been Supertramp, 'It's Raining Again'! :0\

Two Minutes
Poppy
[info]lapswood
As you may have guessed, I was in the laundromat during this mornings two minutes silence for Armistice Day. I have an Internet radio app for my iPhone and was listening to BBC Radio 2. Just before 11 o'clock there was a short announcement and then they cut away to Big Ben.

Standing with my eyes closed in front of an idle tumble dryer and listening on my headphones, the broadcast sounded as it was coming from within the clock tower as those famous Westminster Chimes were literary ringing in my ears. With good noise reduction on my Sennheisers, I could also hear ambient sound of the clapper retracting just before the striking of each of the eleven "Bongs".

Then, with the last strike still fading away, I could hear the sirens and traffic slowly subside until I thought there was complete silence. My thoughts turned to the many people around the Country doing the same. It seemed like just a minute had passed when the canons in Hyde Park sounded to end the observance.

Although completely on my own, I felt like a part of a whole Nation!

Just the attendant here with me at the moment. As I arrived a Regular was just folding his last few items. A tall lean man with reddish short hair. Maybe in his early 50's.
Talking at high volume but with a friendly tone he greeted me, exlaimed he was off for his daily swim at Streatham Baths and bid me farewell all in the same sentence. After he left, the attendant told me the man was a single leg amputee. He always chats about current affairs and can be often seen reading books in many foreign languages with the appropriate dictionary to hand.
This sounds like a person living life with a positive frame of mind despite his circumstaces.

This made me think of all the Service Men & Women coming home from conflicts abroad with missing limbs and worse injuries. Rehabilitation can be hard and without being able to put myself within their experiences, I hope That they can find some positivity to draw on to continue their lives post active military service!

Thank you for all the kind comments and useful critique some of you have given over the last month. You know who you are so sorry if I don't mention anyone by name. Here's today's effort also from good old Camden Market...
You may have seen this on another LJ community but I think it's the first time here.
Have a great Halloween and thank you again! d;0p

It's been on BBC 2 now for a couple of weeks and with three episodes down, is anyone else out there feeling let down by the new US Space Drama, Defying Gravity. as a huge fan of manned spaceflight since before I knew it myself. I've been waiting for a tv series set in the near future, exploring our Solar System. Using, I guess, knowledge gained from unmanned probes over the last 40 years of our family of nearby planets....

Well.....!!!

In a show with a pemise like this, I expected to see Astronaut Scientists doing and discussing real science and exploration as the first Humans to reach our neighbourly planets.

Defying Gravity is becoming as frustrating to me as Grey's Anatomy was to fans of ER. Loads of uber experts and professionals within their field running around like high school teenagers with raging hormones.

Bring on the real science!

Just left for work... Phew! It's very mild out here. Almost t-shirt temps! I feel overdressed as I have my coat. I'm only coming home after 9pm so will need the extra layer.

I remember this time last year was that major snowfall in the UK that brought the Country to a standstill. :0}
